MICROBLADING AND SHADING

Microblading is a form of cosmetic eyebrow tattooing. Unlike traditional cosmetic tattooing, it is less invasive and semi-permanent. Specially formulated pigment is manually implanted into the epidermal layer of the skin using a handheld tool with ultra-fine needles, mimicking hair strokes. This method creates a much more natural, organic effect than other methods of cosmetic tattooing. With Shading, a digital permanent makeup machine is utilized to create a soft, powder makeup look or to add density and depth within the strokes. These methods are ideal for anyone wanting to enhance the look of their eyebrows and perfect for all gender identities.

MICROBLADING AND SHADING STYLES

MICROBLADING

MICROBLADING

MICROBLADING

Microblading is a form of cosmetic tattooing where specially formulated pigment is manually implanted into the epidermal layer of the skin using a handheld tool with ultra-fine needles, mimicking hair strokes. This style works best for those whose goal is to accent the brows they already have by filling in sparse areas, adding length or accenting the arch.

THE NATURAL BROW MICROBLADING

The Natural Brow is Hannah’s signature approach to Microblading. This exclusive service is a brow enhancement featuring her natural, organic, and timeless approach to brows. The Natural Brow Microblading is a nature-first approach to semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing and a way to effortlessly polish and define your existing brows, while keeping them unstructured in their shape. Shading can be added to this service for an additional $100.

THE NATURAL BROW MICROBLADING

MICROBLADING + MICROSHADING: COMBINATION BROW

MICROBLADING + MICROSHADING: Combination Brow

Microblading strokes are placed through the entire brow and shading is added within the body of the brow to add density and depth to the design, as well as to help create a fuller look. This style works best for those who like the look of filling in their brows or tinting their brows, have sparse brows or gaps in their brow. It’s a full, but natural look.

MICROBLADING + MICROSHADING: Hybrid Brow

In this Microblading + Shading style, the Hybrid Brow has a more defined, makeup look. Strokes are placed through the bulb of the brow and (sometimes) the top of the brow. Shading is used to create a clean, crisp baseline and add density in the body of the brow. This look most closely replicates the defined, sharp look of a freshly waxed and tinted brow of this style.

MICROBLADING + MICROSHADING: HYBRID BROW

Shading: Ombre/Powder Brow

This Ombre/Powder Brow is created using shading and does not include Microblading strokes. This style works best for those who want a daily look of makeup on their brows, as well as those with large pores and/or oily skin. It creates a look similar to filling in your brows with brow makeup, utilizing an artist ombre technique of graduating from a darker to lighter saturation of color from the tails of the brows towards the bulbs. This is sometimes the only style option available to those in need of corrective work of their strokes. This is also the base of a two-part process used for individuals with no brow hairs.

Corrective Work: transitioning from a previous experience

Catherine and Hannah do accept clients with brows previously Microbladed or Shaded elsewhere, on a case-by-case basis. Those with previously Microbladed or Shaded brows done elsewhere, MUST directly email Catherine or email Hannah and provide clear, close-up photos of their brows before they can schedule the $35 Microblading or Shading consultation.* If it is determined that we are indeed able to perform Microblading or Shading services for you, this often requires sessions of color corrective work first, which if necessary will be charged at an hourly rate in addition to regular rates for Microblading + Shading services.

*Note: if you fail to email Catherine or Hannah photos of your brows prior to your consultation, you will be responsible for paying the $35 consultation fee even if it is determined that we are unable to work over the previous Microblading or Shading. Emailing photos prior to your consultation appointment will help in determining in advance if we are able to help you.

After your Microblading or Shading service, you must the following instructions are critical:

  • Avoid contact with water or any other liquids to the affected area for 7 days after treatment. Even a small drop which seems unimportant will expand a wound. For example, you must prevent rain or snow from hitting your brows, no showering, etc.

  • No workouts for at least 7 days after treatment.

  • No picking, peeling or scratching of the micro pigmented area to avoid scarring or removal of the pigment.

  • Do not touch the eyebrow area except when applying the provided after-care products. After your service you will receive a complimentary after-care kit and instructions - you must follow this completely!

  • After 7 days you may use gentle neutral soap or non-greasy cleanser to keep eyebrows clean.

  • No sauna, no swimming, and no lakes or other risky areas for at least 2 weeks after treatment.

  • No cosmetics or makeup in the treated area for at least 2 weeks after sessions.

  • No heavy household cleaning such as the garage or basement where there may be a lot of airborne debris for 2 weeks after sessions.

  • No driving in open air vehicles such as convertibles, boats, bicycles, or motorcycles for 2 weeks after sessions.

  • No drinking alcohol in excess for 2 weeks after sessions, as it may lead to slow healing of wounds.

  • No Botox or fillers in the treated area for at least 6 weeks after the final Microblading/Shading Touch-up session.

  • No sun tanning or salon tanning for 6 weeks.

  • No laser or chemical treatments or peelings, facial services, facials and/or any creams containing Retin-A, AHA/BHA’s, or Glycolic Acid on the face or neck until 6 weeks after the final touch up session.

  • No Brow Waxing until 5 to 6 weeks after your Microblading or Shading sessions.

  • No Brow Tinting until 6 weeks after your final Microblading or Shading Touch Up session.

  • Six weeks after your final Microblading or Shading Touch Up session you will be completely healed. At that time you should be sure to apply a layer of sunscreen SPF 30 on your eyebrows when exposed to the sun. Sun exposure may cause the color pigment to fade away more quickly.

MICROBLADING + MICROSHADING FAQS

How long does Microblading and Microshading last?

Microblading and Microshading typically last anywhere from 1 to 3 years depending on your skin type, skincare routine, and lifestyle. Factors like sun exposure, oily skin, and chemical peels can alter results.

How much does Microblading and Microshading cost?

Please see Service Descriptions and online profiles for Catherine and Hannah for pricing.

How many sessions will I have to do?

ALL SEMI-PERMANENT COSMETIC PROCEDURES ARE MULTI-SESSION PROCESSES. An initial application requires a series of sessions that are scheduled 6 to 8 weeks apart. Every session after the first session is considered a Touch Up session. The service is considered incomplete until after the final Touch Up session(s) have been completed.  This is usually completed with two sessions, but sometimes more than two is required.

*Note: Each Touch Up session is charged separately and has a separate fee from the first session. Touch Up sessions must be completed within 12 weeks of the initial Microblading or Shading session date in order to be eligible for the Touch Up rate. Touch Up sessions past the 12 week timeline will have to pay the full initial session fee again.

How long are the appointments?

Microblading or Shading is a 2-step process. The first appointment, the building session takes approximately 3 to 3.5 hours. This session includes paperwork, the mapping and sketching of the brow shape, and the actual procedure. Microshading may take an additional 30 minutes, depending on style and other factors.

What happens during the touch up appointment?

The second appointment, the perfecting Touch Up session, takes from 1.5 hours to 3 hours (depending on style and individual factors of skin type, healing, etc) and is scheduled for 6 to 8 weeks after your initial appointment. This touch up appointment is very important, as everyone’s skin holds pigment differently. During your touch up, the artist will fill in missing hairs or shading, add or make hairs longer or just achieve an overall darker color. This session typically takes less time than the initial session. This appointment allows your artist to give you the best, longest lasting results possible.

What can I expect during my Microblading or Shading service?

Here’s a quick explanation of a typical service provided by an official Microblading or Shading artist:

  1. The artist ‘maps out’ and draws on the eyebrow shape utilizing a combination of measuring tools and free-hand styles. Brows are measured perfectly to complement your unique face shape and size.

  2. Next, the artist chooses the pigment to match your desired look.

  3. Initial strokes are placed at a very shallow depth without numbing to lay down the pattern as cleanly and precisely as possible, and pigment is worked into each stroke to define the brow. After the first pass, a numbing solution is applied and the strokes are repeat 2-3 times. If shading has been added to your service, it is done next.

  4. A pigment mask is then left to absorb into the skin.

  5. After the mask is finished, the artist cleans the brow area thoroughly.

  6. After the service, the artist will apply a sealant that will remain on the brows for 4 to 5 hours. The artist will then review with you your after-care instructions and provide you with a complimentary after-care kit.

Does Microblading/Shading hurt?

Discomfort is to be expected, though it is subjective for each individual. Everyone is different and some areas may be more tender than others. Topical anesthetics are used in the service to ease discomfort, but will not eliminate it completely. It’s important to note that following your service there may be some redness, swelling, light scabbing and itching.

How long is the healing process?

The healing process lasts anywhere between 5 to 6 weeks, depending on the individual. It takes 7 to 14 days for the brows to heal over and about 4 weeks for the color to fully set in. The color will fade approximately 40% after the first session, which is why Microblading and Shading are a 2-step process.  Touch Ups will not be done before the 6 week mark. Proper after-care will be discussed during the consultation and a complimentary after-care kit will be provided to you.

What’s the Microblading or Shading healing process like?

Your new eyebrows will go through several phases during the healing cycle. True reflection of healed color can only be assessed about 4 weeks after treatment. Touch ups and/or correction of the shape or design is recommended at least 6 weeks after initial treatment.

WHILE YOUR SKIN HEALS, BE PREPARED FOR THE COLOR INTENSITY OF YOUR PROCEDURE TO BE SIGNIFICANTLY LARGER, SHARPER, BRIGHTER, OR DARKER than what is expected for the final outcome. Once the healing of the skin starts taking place it will look like dandruff flakes or dry skin, and may possibly be scabby. Your eyebrows will then go through a lighter colored phase as the pigment is absorbed in the deeper layers of the skin, and will then return to their healed color. Once the healing is completed, you will enjoy a pair of beautiful, new, natural looking eyebrows.

I have little to no brow hair. Am I a good candidate for Microblading or Shading?
