DAY TWO OF TRAINING

The HAUS team had their second of four days of classes with hairdressers in the Nu Po refugee camp. Today's focus was on haircutting and finishing, including blowouts, curling and braiding. The hairdressers from Nu Po camp in Thailand who are attending this workshop have been learning quickly. We have discovered that hairdressing is truly a Universal Language and our connection with our fellow stylists across the world was instantaneous.

The amazing Dina and Padkeow with the HAUS delegates Mackenzie, Natalie and Nikki. Dina and Padkeow oversee all of the "Sexual and Gender Based Violence" programming in 3 different refugee camps here in Thailand, including training hairdressers to counsel victims of SGBV. They are also helping us with translating. They are incredibly inspirational and hardworking women.

Below is Charlie, our translator Kay Thi (in white) and her mom, Thi Dar Aung (in pink). Thi Dar Aung was Charlie's model today at the workshop. "He was so thorough," Thi Dar Aung said. "She looks so cute," Kay Thi said. "She looks younger than me." Kay Thi's husband and daughter (Thi Dar Aung's granddaughter) were resettled two years ago to the US. They live in Saint Paul!

This is Phadkaew, the American Refugee Committee's GBV Manager in Umpiem Mai camp and an assistant for this training this week. She was also Charlie's model today. Phadkaew grows her hair out and chops it off every four years. She's donating her ponytail to a charity that will create hair pieces for patients going through chemotherapy.

Nikki Brown from HAUS Salon North Loop is amazing at braiding. We have a feeling there will be a lot more women with braided hairstyles in NuPo camp after today! Here Nikki poses with two of our models from our workshop today. We covered long hair cutting, blowouts, curling iron work and braiding.

Reilly from HAUS Salon South Minneapolis demonstrated long hair cutting techniques for hairdressing students today on day 2 of the 4-day workshop in Nu Po camp in Thailand.

San Pyo uses a shampoo bed! The shampoo experience is an incredibly relaxing time for her clients, who are fellow refugees in the camps who all work very hard to create livelihoods for their families. She's excited to start doing the scalp and shoulder massage on her clients to make them feel even better.

We're looking forward to another two days of training with this incredible group of hairdressers!
